Johnson's Reconstruction "Carrying Out Lincoln's Plan"(April 15, 1865- March 4, 1869)
Lincoln had already started on the plan and it was not much different after Johnson’s input. He started by pardoning the South with some exceptions. Property amongst the whites was going to be shared and their slaves would be free. Confederate leader took charge of the reconstruction.
Black codes were the names given to the laws that the South’s government passed buring the presidency of Andrew Jackson. These laws insited on prohibiting the rights of the blacks to vote, forbidding them to sit on juries, limiting their right to testify against white men, carrying weapons in public places and working in certain occupations. After the civil war congress passed the Civil Rights Bill to protect the blacks from the back codes.
